Villagers in Kilinochchi Benefited Thru Army-organized Mobile Eye Camp

The joint sponsorship, made available to the 57 Division HQ of the Security Force HQ-Mullaitivu (SFHQ-MLT) by both Commercial Bank and "My Vision' Eye Care Centre at Anuradhapura enabled troops to conduct a mobile Eye Clinic in the general area of Kilinochchi, served by 571 Brigade troops and supply free pairs of eye-glasses to deserving villagers on Saturday (22).

The community-oriented project that runs in parallel with the 'Way Forward Strategy-2020-2025' of the Army examined 167 villagers with visual impairments during the mobile eye clinic, attended by eye specialists, nurses and medical assistants and a total of 156 civilians were recommended the use of eye- glasses. Several selected civilians with visual complications were referred for further treatment at government hospitals after the mobile clinic.

The General Officer Commanding of the 57 Division, Major General Priyantha Jayawardena under the guidelines given by Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe Commander, Security Forces-Mullaitivu, together with Brigadier Chaminda Gamlath, Commander, 571 Brigade and his troops attended to the conduct of the mobile clinic in the camp compound.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Commercial Bank, Mr Indika Thilakahewa and the Junior Executive Officer, Mr Mohan Samaratunga, together with members of the Union of Bank of Ceylon, Mr Namal Karunaratne of B. D. Sebastian Education and Research Center, reputed Eye Specialist Dr Sumith Tennakoone with his team of Senior and Junior Executive Officers of the 'My Vision' Eye Care Centre at Anuradhapura contributed to the success of the project.
