US Delegation Enlightened on Army Roles in Jaffna


A high level 10-member US delegation, currently in Sri Lanka during a tour to Jaffna met Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) on Sunday (27).

The delegation comprised Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Mr James Moore, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for South and South Asia Mr. Vikram Singh, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labour Ms. Jane B. Zinnerman, US Ambassador for Sri Lanka, Ms Michele J Sison, and a few other diplomats.

A full account on the status-quo in terms of Jaffna peninsula’s security, economic development, rehabilitation, resettlement and social integration, presented by Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, SFHQ-J enlightened the delegation, giving a wide spectrum of humanitarian and community-oriented roles, being pursued by the SFHQ-J for the benefit of Jaffna civilians.

Major General Hathurusinghe further said that the majority of Jaffna people are behind the government’s post-war development programmes and aware of diverse services and assistance, being provided by the Army in Jaffna.
