Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J), recently had the opportunity of meeting Rt.Hon. Michael Morris, Lord Naseby -PC, Baron of Sandy and Co -Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Sri Lanka in the UK Parliament when the latter recently made a stopover at the SFHQ-J as part of his itinerary.
As a special envoy of the UK Parliament, Lord Naseby was in Sri Lanka with a view to taking an independent assessment of ground realities in the north and elsewhere in the country.
Major General Hathurusinghe during the meeting elaborated on the series of post-conflict projects of different nature and briefed him on the Army’s roles in the sphere of development, reconciliation, rehabilitation, resettlement and welfare of civilians, affected by the war. He also underlined the status quo in regard to fast growing healthy relations among different ethnicities and reconciliatory moves, launched by the Security Forces in coordination with civil administrators in the peninsula.
Lord Naseby, his spouse, Lady Mrs Morris and the entourage during their stay in Jaffna called on Rev. Dr Thomas Savundaranayagam, Jaffna Bishop, Major General (Retd) G.A. Chandrasiri, Governor Northern Province and Mrs. Emelda Sukumar, District Secretary for Jaffna.
