Urban Development Authority (UDA) in quick response to a request of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva has allocated a land patch of 1.1 acres from Battaramulla, Koswatta area for construction of accommodation quarters for Officers who would be serving the new Army Headquarters at Akuregoda shortly after its opening.
Lieutenant General Silva, intending to cut down the colossal rents, being paid to private owners for supply of accommodation facilities for Army personnel, proposed the Directorate of Real Estate & Quartering of the Army to find an alternative solution and put up some new accommodation quarters, close to the new Army Headquarters, enabling Officers to reside in close proximity, although the Army did not possess any other land in adjacent areas.
Accordingly, the Commander of the Army turned to the UDA for cooperation and acquisition of a suitable land for this purpose and requested Hon. Minister Champika Ranawaka to assist in this regard since the Army is now set to move into the new Defence Headquarters complex at Akuregoda. The UDA promptly reacted to the Commander’s concern and provided the said piece of land on temporary basis until accommodation facilities in the new Headquarters complex are completed as the final phase of the mammoth construction project, still in progress.
Mr K.L.W Perera, Director Lands (UDA), Mrs Nadeera Thirimavithana, Deputy Director Lands (UDA) and Mrs Nilanthi Renuka , Assistant Director Land (UDA) this afternoon (23) called on the Commander of the Army at his office and handed over land transfer deeds and documents of the said land to the Commander of the Army. Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva acknowledged the offer and paid his sincere gratitude to the UDA and the Minister of Megapolis and Western Province Development, Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka.
Accordingly, Directorate of Real Estate & Quartering coordinating the tasks expects to launch the project by way of designing container apartments to serve the purpose.
Major General Prasanna Chandrasekara, Director, Directorate of Real Estate & Quartering and Brigadier W.S.B Nayakarathna, Deputy Director at Directorate of Real Estate & Quartering were present during the meeting at the Commander’s office. trace affiliate link | Sneaker & Lifestyle News
