Troops Throw Weight Behind Preparation of ICC for Affected Monks

Sri Lanka Army troops on the directions of the Army Chief are now engaged in the construction of the first-ever Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) for COVID-19-affected Buddhist monks in the country at the International Vipassana Meditation Centre in Colombo.

By responding to a request made by Ven Ududummbara Kashyapa Thero of the Internationa Vipassana Meditation centre from General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak, the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), headed by Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, President Army Seva Vanitha Unit has undertaken the responsibility of providing all essentials to the new ICC after its establishment.

This ICC with all medical equipment, medicine store and a separate HDU could accommodate 84 affected monks in 45 rooms for treatment.

Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, together with Major General Crishantha Gnanarathna, General Officer Commanding 14 Division, Brigadier Thushara Balasooriya, Brigadier Coordination of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit and few Officers on Wednesday (25) visited the venue in order to evaluate the progress of its preparations.
