Troops serving the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W) recently displayed their sentiments of gratitude to one of the senior Wanni resident Buddhist prelates who threw his full weight behind civilians and War Heroes alike and invoked religious blessings on soldiers’ battlefield gains when the prelate returned to Vavuniya upon conferment of dignified title.
Ven. Etambagaskada Kalyanatissa Nayaka Thero, Incumbent, Etambagaskada Sri Sudarmarama Maha Viharaya during the times of LTTE terrorist threats fearlessly defended all villages, surrounding Mamaduwa- Etambagaskada areas and took all possible precautionary measures to protect innocent civilians, irrespective of LTTE life threats against him.
Malwattae chapter recognizing his invaluable service to mankind, nation and innocent Wanni villagers during all these years conferred ‘Saddharma Keerthi Sri Sumana Siddhartha’ honorary title on him and appointed him as the deputy Sanghanayaka for Northern Province.
Major General Sumedha Perera, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni, adding further significance to the conferment organized a special reception ceremony to the prelate with the support of other organizations and members of the Maha Sangha in the area at Etambagaskada Sri Sudharmarama Viharaya premises on Monday (20).
Ven Kalyanatissa Nayaka Thero at the peak of LTTE terrorism was compelled to forego his alms, other requirements and almost everything for the sake of innocent civilians living in those villages and at times he remained awake the whole night guarding village borders against LTTE terrorist strikes, for which he won admiration from all the villagers and the Security Forces alike.
The reception ceremony, headed by Most Ven Dr Niyangoda Wijithasiri Anu Nayaka Thero of the Malwatta chapter drew a distinguished gathering of invitees including Mr Lalith Weerathunga, Secretary to President as Chief Guest.
During the ceremony, Mr Weerathunga handed over the Akthapathra (act of appointment) to the prelate while Major General Sumedha Perera, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni delivered the ‘Vijinipatha’ (traditional fan) to Ven Kalyanatissa in accordance with traditions.
Members of Maha Sangha, religious dignitaries of Hindu, Catholic and Islam, Deputy Inspector General of Police for Wanni, District Secretary for Vavuniya and large gathering of grateful civilians gathered together to pay respect to the Nayaka Thero.
