A large stock of relief items, including dry rations, essentials, clothes, water bottles, plastic utensils, sanitary-ware, etc, collected by Madiwela - Iiyamporuwa Buddhist temple was distributed among the flood-affected in Eluwankulama, Thabbowa and Milankulama areas in the 143 Brigade under the Security Forces Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) on Thursday (3).

SFHQ-West troops in the past few days were toiling hard day and night to provide immediate relief to hundreds of flood victims in coordination with state and private agencies, giving prioritized consideration.

Meanwhile, 64 Infantry Division troops took prompt action and saved a large number of displaced people and flood victims, remaining stranded due to heavy floods in Muthiyankaddu areas under the Oddusuddan Divisional Secretariat area.

Both Perary and Kuruvilearu rivers, Muthiyankaddu tank and a few more water canals / reservoirs in this area overflowed in the past few days, destroying many crops and road networks and displacing many farming communities.

64 Division troops immediately rescued affected people and housed them in safer places in coordination with the Divisional Secretariat at Oddusuddan. Those affected people were offered cooked food and drinking water soon after the troops rescued them.
