54 Division troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni with sponsorship provided by philanthropists distributed free spectacles to 253 visually-impaired people in Mannar in close coordination with the Eye Clinic Section at the Mannar District Hospital on Saturday (7).
Supported by the office of the Regional Health Services in Mannar, the financial contribution to the project was provided by Mr Ravi Rajapaksha, based in the United Kingdom through the coordination of Mr Sasanka Mendis of Colombo Orient, 306/B-2 Lions club.
Major General Darshana Wijesekara, General officer Commanding (GOC), 54 Division and Colonel Thushara Harasgama Commander 543 Brigade closely supervised the event and the GOC attended as the Chief Guest for distribution held at Mannar MOH office.
Commander 543 Brigade, Major H.G.S Gallage, Commanding officer of 4 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Senior Officers, Officers, Mr Sasanka Mendis of Lions Club, Dr. Ravi Pachchai of DGHS Mannar, Dr. S Nishanthi Kethiswaram and Other Ranks supported the conduct of the project.
