Troops Offer Blood to Patients at Batticaloa Teaching Hospital

A gathering of 114 Army personnel of the 23 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - East and 26 civilians offered their blood to save the lives of patients in the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital during a blood donation programme, held at Shivananda College auditorium in Kallady on Saturday (14).

Responding to a request, made by the hospital, Brigadier Shewanth Kulathunga, General Officer Commanding, 23 Division instructed his troops in the 231 Brigade to assist the project considering it as an emergency community need. Accordingly, 11 Officers and 103 Other Ranks donated their blood for the benefit of patients. A group of 26 civilians in the area also joined the blood donation.

Shivananda Sports Club in the area provided their assistance for the conduct of the project. Brigadier Dilupa Bandara, Commander, 231 Brigade, 231 Brigade’s Civil Affairs Officer, Commanding Officer, 11 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Officers and Other Ranks volunteered to give their blood during the arrangement.
