Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna (SFHQ-J), investing one more new house, built by 5 Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) with a low income group family at Puttur East on Saturday (16) had so far succeeded in constructing a total of 1782 new houses for poor families.
Early February this year Mr S. Vikneshwaram, a poor unemployed father of three reached the 511 Brigade Headquarters in search of a solution to his homeless problem and the 511 Brigade responded positively to the appeal.
On the instructions of the 511 Brigade Commander, 5 SLLI troops jumped into action and completed the construction of a new house to the family, worth more than Rs 5 lakhs.
Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Security Force Commander-Jaffna at the request of the 511 Brigade ceremonially handed over the new house to Mr Vikneshwaram and the family after observing house-warming rites and rituals.
Rev Father Vincent of Kopai Catholic Church, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division, 511 Brigade Commander, 5 SLLI Commanding Officer, Mr Yoganadan, Principal at Puthur Methodist Mission and several others attended the house-warming ceremony.
