Children at “Vaazhvaham”, Home for visually-handicapped in Chunnakam, Jaffna, were recently provided a day full of fun by 14 Gemunu Watch (GW) troops of the 513 Brigade under Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J).
Brigadier Priyantha Perera, 513 Brigade Commander, Lieutenant Colonel M.G.G.W. Rohana, 14 GW Commanding Officer, with the blessings of Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, SFHQ-J, organized this treat, replete with fun and music to entertain the inmates at this Home.
Music-loving children in the orphanage, adding rhythmic voices, sang and danced to the tunes of the Army Calypso band which rent the air mostly with popular Tamil and Sinhala melodies.
Before luncheon treat was served to those children, Brigade Commander, mingled and spent some time with them, showing warmth and affection to them.
Mr. A. Ravindranath, lecturer, College of Education at Kopay and the Head of “Vaazhvaham”, Mr. Ravindranath, himself a former student at Vaazhvaham were present during the visit.
In the meantime, same troops on the previous day conducted a Shramadana community work to clean the basketball court and the playground at Konapuram Open Welfare Center, together with the administrator, Mr. Muththuthurai Imbarasa and residents in the area.
In addition, troops of the same battalion (14 GW) conducted one more Shramadana to clean the buildings and the premises around Fathima Catholic church at Pandathirippu.
