Troops Build Children’s Park in Kaddeikadu

Determined to provide equal opportunities to children of underprivileged families in the general areas of Kaddeikadu and Kevil in the Jaffna peninsula, 55 Division troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) with financial support provided by Southerners built a Children’s Park plus a Reading area for rest and recreation.

On Tuesday (26), the successfully-completed project under the theme ‘Safe and Sound Future for Children’ was opened and vested in the children during a simple ceremony where sponsors, Mr Piyadasa Gamage and Mr Thushara Amarasinghe were present.

Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Commander, SF-J at the invitation of Brigadier Prasanna Gunarathne, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division who initiated and fulfilled the project within a very short span, attended the warming ceremony as the Chief Guest on Tuesday (26). The new Children’s Park consists of 6 play items and a library that can be used by parents accompanying children to the park.

The ‘Sri Lanka Army with a Heart’ while promoting goodwill and reconciliation between civilians and members of the Security Forces has already launched a multitude of community projects for the greater benefit of children and needy people in the peninsula.

Senior Officers, Officers, Other Rankers, children and parents of those children participated in the opening ceremony.
