Army troops, together with devotees in the area assisted the construction and opening of the new relic chamber (Dhatu Mandiraya) at Mailankarachchi Sri Mahindaraama Temple in Welikanda area and its opening ceremony during 27-28 March.
Under the supervision of the Commander 233 Brigade, Colonel Wasantha Hewage and Lieutenant Colonel S.P.A Senarathne, Commanding Officer, 6 Gajaba Regiment camp took the lead in constructing and opening of it after an all-night 'Pirith' chanting ceremony at the temple premises. Offer of ‘Heel Dana’ (breakfast) following morning brought the opening ceremony to end.
Mr. K.P Thissera of Wadduwa donated Rs. 1.6 million for construction of the chamber and the opening ceremony.
