Troops of the 5 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment of the 581 Brigade under the 58 Division under command to 1 Corps this evening (1) rose to the occasion and rescued a total of about 120 civilians trapped due to a landslide that occurred along the road patch between Ranwanthenna - Makandura in the general area of Thawalamthenna near Kotmale New Town.
Heavy rainfall that affected this mountain area in Thawalamthenna area, Kotmale blocked the main road as soil mounds fell onto the road, depriving passage for civilians using this main road.
Troops ensured the safety passage of stranded civilians on both sides of the road and facilitated the traffic movement after moving soil mounds.
