Tri-Service Guard of Honour Greets Visiting PRC Air Chief Marshal

The visiting Air Chief Marshal Xu Qiliang, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People’s Republic of China was accorded a tri-service Guard of Honour at Ministry of Defence and Urban Development grounds Friday (16) afternoon.

The high level military delegation, headed by Air Chief Marshal Xu Qiliang arrived in Sri Lanka on Tuesday (13) on a three-day goodwill visit at the invitation of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development. At the airport on arrival, he was warmly received by Chief of Defence Staff, tri-service Commanders and senior officials of the Ministry of Defence.

Friday’s Guard of Honour, a rare joint spectacle of tri-services commenced soon after the day’s Chief Guest was received on arrival by Army, Navy and Air Force Commanders. Soon after the salute, he was introduced to all senior tri-service officers, present at the venue including Chiefs of Staff of the tri-services.

Next, Air Chief Marshal Qiliang and his delegation made for the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development. Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development warmly received the delegation at the entrance to the Ministry of Defence building and ushered them to the main auditorium for formal discussions.

The delegation during the meeting with Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa exchanged views on a number of issues, pertinent to the security of the region and both countries.
