Through Army Initiative 350 Needy Students in Mullaittivu Get School Accessories

In response to a request made by Major A.B.S Athukorala, Commanding Officer, 23 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) camp of the 642 Brigade in the 64 Division HQ under the Security Force HQ-Mullaittivu, a group of Sri Lankan expatriates with the objective of encouraging 350 poverty-hit students learning at Samalankulam Government Tamil Mixed School, Oddusudan Sinnathambi School, Sinnasalamban Eeshwaran School and Karipaddamurippu Government Tamil Mixed School sponsored the distribution of books, accessories and incentives to the value of Rs 3 lakhs on Wednesday (27).

The brief ceremony to distribute those learning aids took place at Karipaddamurippu Government Tamil Mixed School where Major General Manjula Karunarathna, General Officer Commanding, 64 Division as the Chief Guest graced the occasion. It was organized by the Commanding Officer of 23 VIR and his troops under the supervision of Brigadier Prasanna Wijesoriya, 642 Brigade Commander.

Donors, Mrs Priyantha Gamage resident in New Jersey, USA, Dr Thushara Lal in Melbourne, Australia, Mr Subramanium Ravindradas in Canada and Dr Seba Jayamaha from Wattala came forward to support the students for their higher studies at the request of the Commanding Officer, 23 VIR.

The distribution ceremony was attended by Mr D Akilan, Divisional Secretary, state officials, parents of students, Officers, Other Ranks and civilians in the area. A few representatives of the donors were also present at the location. Running sport media | Nike sneakers
