TF - 3 Troops Under SFHQ-E Organize Distribution of School Accessories

Task Force-3 troops under the Security Forces Headquarters-East (SFHQ-E) with the sponsorship, given by Foundation of Goodness (Guna Jaya Sathuta Padanama) of Mr Kushil Gunasekara, distributed 518 parcels of school uniforms and accessories free of charge among students of three schools in Aligambe, Kalmunai and Thirukkovil areas.

Under the programme, a separate voucher to the value of Rs 1000/= for them to buy a pair of shoes and socks was also given away to those students during brief ceremonies at Aligambe Tamil Mixed School (300 students), Kalmunai Sinhala Vidyalaya (34 students) and Thirukkovil Al Hijra Muslim Vidyalaya (184 students).

All the parcel cost the ‘Foundation of Goodness’ Rs 8.5 lakhs and each is valued at Rs 3500/=. Distribution was made, following a close assessment made by the troops in consultation with zonal educational authorities, principals, Grama Seva officials, parents and different responsible people in respective areas. A section of these gift parcels was given away to pre-school kids, planning to join Grade 1 classes next year.

Rev Joseph Mary, Pastor for Aligambe Diocese, Mr Ananda Jayawardena of ‘Foundation of Goodness’, Brigadier S.H.F.P Perera, General Officer Commanding, Task Force - 3, Colonel P.J.P Gamage, 631 Brigade Commander and several officers were associated with this project, aimed at promoting spirits of co-existence, harmony and reconciliation among students of different ethnic backgrounds.
