To coincide with the National Independence Day ceremony, the Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) on Saturday (4) handed over ten more new houses built by the Army to civilians in Akkarayankulam village area under 574 Brigade Headquarters.
The first ten new houses, built within 180 days by Army troops of 15 (v) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) and 13 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) under 574 Brigade were delivered to recipients during a simple ceremony, headed by General Officer Commanding (GOC), 57 Division on February 4.
In addition to labour, provided by the Army, each house has cost about Rs 3,32,000/=. Funds for raw materials have been allocated by the office of the Governor for Northern Province, following initiatives taken under ‘Uthuru Wasanthaya’ (Northern Spring) development programme of the government.
To this date, the SFHQ-KLN has completed construction of 79 new houses in the area and expects to build 354 in total within a few months with the support of the government and other well-wishers.
