Troops of the 1 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) under command to the 143 Brigade of the 14 Division under the Security Force Headquarters-West turned good Samaritans and offered voluntary assistance for repairs of storm-affected houses in Nikaweratiya area on Sunday (7).
Gushing winds and storms that swept across the area caused damages to 17 houses rendering those inhabitants helpless. On being informed of the chaos, Brigadier Sajith Liyanage, Commander, 143 Brigade on the instructions of Major General Wasantha Abrew, Commander, Security Forces-West and Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, General Officer Commanding, 14 Division dispatched troops to attend to the emergency and help the affected in whatever the way possible.
Troops accordingly moved to affected area and assisted them for repairs and cleared roads and all by-roads, littered with fallen trees, branches, posts, etc.
