Stage Set for 'Ranaviru Real Star - Mission IV' to Go on the Boards

The stage is now set for the year’s mammoth final ‘Ranaviru Real Star - Mission IV’ at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on Saturday (July 26) with seven tri-service contenders, entering the fray for supremacy.

As the final countdown has begun, a Press Conference at Colombo Kingsbury Hotel, headed by the spectacle architect, Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development, briefed the Media on Wednesday (23), setting out arrangements and announcing award of unmatched gifts to the winner and the finalists.

This year’s finale is competed by Major Thilina Chandrakumara (SMS 9), Captain Aruni De Silva (SMS 19), Captain Rahal Fernando (SMS 14), Lance Corporal Sampath Suranga (SMS 10), Lance Corporal Saumya Lepothdeniya (SMS 18) of the Army, Medical Assistant Sumendra Rishi (SMS 85) of Sri Lanka Navy and Leading Aircraftman Deshan Dayarathna (SMS 4) of the Sri Lanka Air Force.

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera, Commander of the Navy, Air Marshal  K.A Gunatilleke, Commander of the Air Force, Dr Hans Wijesooriya, Chief Executive Officer (Dialog), main sponsor, Mr Edward Jayakody, representing panel of judges, together with Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, were at the head table to answer Media queries.

This year’s winner, unlike on previous occasions, will get a Rs 20 m worth house in any area he wished and the runners-up will equally receive brand new car and cash bonanzas, it was announced amounts of cash awarded to them will remain a secret.

Ranaviru Real Star, intent on extracting singing talents of tri-servicemen while exposing them for promotion of aesthetic values, is widely acclaimed as the country’s most watched reality programme. The project, considered a tribute, dedicated to the priceless services of Army, Navy and Air Force personnel, has so far distributed more than Rs 500 m worth gifts under three previous programmes.

Ms Yashoda Wimaladharma, Mr Edward Jayakody, members of the panel of judges, programme presenters, tri-service senior officers, including Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Adjutant General, Military Spokesman and Director Media at Army Headquarters were associated with the event.
