Special Mass Invokes Blessings on Army

The special Mass and Thanksgiving Service to bless the Army Day and its 61st Anniversary was conducted Thursday (7) evening at Christ Church, Galle Face, Colombo 03 with the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya participating as the Chief Guest.

With Thursday’s service, pre Army Day religious observances of Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic and Christian denominations came to an end before this year’s Army Day is commemorated on Saturday (9). 
 
Brigadier B. C. J. F. Rodrigo, Secretary to the Army Christian Fellowship received the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya on his arrival at the church venue.

Rt. Rev. Valence Mendis, Bishop of Chilaw performed the Mass in all three languages, Sinhala, Tamil and English. The annual event, organized by the Army Christian Fellowship to mark the Army Day was attended by a large section of Christians in the Army. The priest also invoked blessings on Army flags after flag bearers placed all regimental flags, ahead of the main podium near the altar. Recital of the Army song and the National anthem culminated the observances. Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch was also associated with the blessing ceremony.

Many senior Army officers and soldiers attended the occasion.
