Special 21-day Long 'Pirith' Chanting Commences at Independence Square to Invoke Blessings to Eradicate COVID-19 from the Country

A three-week long 'Pirith' Chanting to invoke blessings on the country and eradication of the epidemic, HE the President, Hon Prime Minister, Health workers, Tri services, Policemen and all Sri Lankans was inaugurated this evening (18) at the historic Independence Square, Colombo 7, amidst a distinguished gathering of prominent members of the Maha Sangha, HE the President, First Lady, Principal Advisor to President Mr. Lalith Weeratunga and his spouse, Secretary Defence and his spouse, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Navy and Air Force Commanders, acting IGP, Mr Ishara Nanayakkara and his spouse, Chairman LOLC (main sponsors of the event) and attendees.

The three-week long continuous day and night chanting that would continue till 9th December 2020, a concept of HE the President was arranged by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva with the best of cooperation, extended by Secretary Defence, sister services and the Police, state officials and others under the guidelines given by Ven.Pahala Vitiyela Jananandabidana Thero, Chief Incumbent at Sri Kalyani Yogashrma monastic temple in Bauddhaloka Mawatha.

The conclusion of the 21-day chanting expects to distribute blessed 100,000 'Pirith' water containers among all tri service establishments, Police, COVID-19 affected areas of the country. Similarly, blessed water is to be sprinkled from the air expecting divine blessings. In addition, 700 Buddha statues are also to be distributed among temples across the country on account of the event.

After the Maha Sangha proceeded to the 'Pirith Mandapaya' in a simple procession, preliminary observances were made before HE the President after offering the traditional tray of betel respectfully invited the monks to commence the proceedings. A brief 'Anushasana' on behalf of the members of the Maha Sangha set the stage ready for observance of five precepts and commencement of chanting.Running sneakers | Nike Air Max
