Soldiers serving the 62 Division area, under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding Brigadier G. J. L. Waduge, conducted several projects to assist school-going children in the area recently.
A special seminar was organized at the Sampathnuwara School auditorium to the students of Welioya area who were getting ready to sit for the G. C. E. (O/L) examination this December. The two-day seminar, conducted by Jayodhanaya Organization of Kadawatha, was coordinated by the Civil Affairs Officer of 62 Division Colonel P. N. Liyanage. Brigade Commander 621 Brigade Brigadier H. P. Senevirathne, Senior Officers of the Army, Principals and teachers of the area were also present at the event.

Meanwhile, school items, including stationery, school bags and shoes, were donated to 200 students of five schools in Welioya area recently. This donation, worth Rs.890,000/= was made by the 'Jana Jaya Sathuta Foundation'. Brigade Commander 621 Brigade, Senior Army Officers and Mr. R. Ananda Jayawardena of Jana Jaya Sathuta Foundation were present at the occasion.

In the meantime, some more scholarships were organized by the 621 Brigade for students of the area who excelled at various levels of education. Three students of Sampathnuwara School in Welioya, Saman Indika (Rs.1000/=), Chathurika Indiwari (Rs.1000/=) and Shasitha Dimodya (Rs.500/=); and three students of Buddhangala School in Padaviya, Sandun Prasanna Chandrasiri (Rs.2000/=), Ganga Kumari (Rs.1000/=) and Dilip Mindada (Rs.500/=) received these scholarships from the Brigade Commander. The monetary scholarships were donated by Mr. Anura Sarathchandra Rathnayake who pursues his higher education in England.

Two more students excel in their studies have received assistance of the soldiers serving the 621 Brigade, when the soldiers voluntarily contributed from their wages to donate two bicycles to mark the second anniversary of the Brigade. The two students of needy families in Gajabapura and Monarawewa villages in Welioya area received the two bicycles from the Brigade Commander 621 Brigade recently.
