Soldiers Help Fight Forest Fire in Ambuluwawa Hills

More than one hundred soldiers, deployed to control the forest fire that broke out at Ambuluwawa hill reserve in Gampola Wednesday (22) joined hands together with other fire-fighters to contain its further spread.

The fire broke out in the early hours on Wednesday was brought under control by late afternoon with the help of Air Force, Police and other Fire and Rescue teams, dispatched from Kandy.

A contingent of five officers and one hundred and five soldiers of 2nd Battalion of Sri Lanka Rifle Corps was deployed for the task. Two helicopters of Sri Lanka Air Force were also used to drop water from the air in addition to the two fire engines of the Kandy Fire and Rescue teams. 70 Police personnel too joined the mission.

The fire has caused damages to more than 300 acres of prime forest.
