Two new houses constructed by the soldiers of army’s 59 Division with the blessings of the General Officer Commanding 59 Division Brigadier G.R.H. Dias were handed over to two needy families in Kumarapuram and Mullaiyavalai in Mullaitivu on 9 and 11 April.
Security Forces Commander Mullaitivu Major General L.B.R. Mark, GA Mullaitivu Mr N Vethanayagam and Brigadier G.R.H. Dias attended the ceremony held on 09 to hand over the new house, built by the 4th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry for a needy family in Kumarapuram.
Brigadier G.R.H. Dias accompanied by Brigadier S.A.R Samarasinghe Commander 592 Brigade graced the ceremony held on 11April 2012 to hand over the other house, built by the 20th Gamunu Watch for a family in Mullaiyavalai
The total man power requirement for this project was provided by the above two battalions deployed in Mullaiyawali area. Whilst performing other duties entrusted to the soldiers in the field, the construction of the two houses were completed within 2 months in order to handover to the recipients before the Sinhala and Tamil New year. Face value of each house is over Rs 700,000.00.
