SLSR Seva Vanitha Extends Support to SVAB's Housing Project Constructing One More New House

One more fallen War Hero’s memory was again revered by the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) Seva Vanitha Unit when it donated a new house at Ellepolagama, Rajawella in the Kandy district to the deceased’s spouse on Wednesday (29) after a brief ceremony, headed by Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) and Mr Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Governor for Central Province who graced the occasion as a distinguished invitee.

SLSR Seva Vanitha Unit chaired by Mrs Rani Jayathillake, Secretary SVAB who learnt about the plight of the spouse and two daughters of the late soldier, Rifleman W. N Lakshman Kumara of  5 (v) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (5 SLSR) after his sudden death, decided to erect the new house at Maberiya junction, Rajawella, Kandy with the funds generated by the SLSR Seva Vanitha Unit and fellow-soldiers of the 5 (v) SLSR soldiers.    

Wednesday’s formal hand-over of the new house to the spouse of late Rifleman W. N Lakshman Kumara of  5 (v) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (5 SLSR) was made possible due to construction expertise and labour, provided by brother-soldiers of his own Regiment.

The house originally, estimated to cost the SLSR Seva Vanitha Unit some Rs 1.7 million was brought to completion at a relative low expenditure of Rs 9 lakhs, due to support extended by 5 SLSR troops and donors.

Mrs Jayasuriya, together with Mr Kobbekaduwa at the invitation of the SLSR Seva Vanitha Unit Chairperson after a brief religious ceremony unveiled a plaque, cut a ribbon, and warmed the house by boiling the auspicious pot of milk and formally delivered house keys to the spouse and two daughters of the fallen War Hero. The occasion also paid a tribute to the memory of the fallen War Hero after garlanding his photo. A traditional oil lamp lit by all distinguished participants, marked the inauguration of the house.     

Mr Kobbekaduwa addressing the gathering after the auspicious opening,  spoke high of numerous sacrifices that had been made by our War Heroes  for the sake of the country and reminded that it was a moral obligation on our part to look after them and their beloved families.

Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB symbolized the importance of the occasion by presenting a gift parcel to the recipients of the house.

The SVAB, committed wholeheartedly towards the welfare of the families of fallen and dependent/disable War Heroes, has been at the forefront in constructing new houses for families or renovating the existing ones to suit physical needs of those dependent/disable War Heroes who fought for sovereignty of the country at the risk of their own lives, legs and limbs.

Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President SVAB received the Governor for Central Province on arrival at the venue. Mrs Rani Jayathillake, Secretary SVAB welcomed Mrs Jayasuriya and conducted all the invitees to the venue in a traditional procession.
