SLSR Regimental HQ Plants Indigenous Herbal Saplings

A project to plant indigenous medicinal saplings, to be in line with the Commander's 'Thuru Mithuru Nawa Ratak' drive got underway at the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) HQ at Ambepussa on Wednesday (1) on the directions of Major General Jayantha Senevirathne, Colonel of the Regiment SLSR and Commander Security Forces - West.

Over 450 varieties of herbal plants such as ‘Ehela’ (Cassia fistula), ‘Kohomba’ (Azadirachta Indica), ‘Bael fruit’ (Aeglemarmelos), ‘Mee’ (Madhucalongifolia), ‘Kumbuk’ (Terminalia arjuna), ‘Kaluwara’ (Diospyrosebenum), ‘Sandalwood’ (Santalum album), ‘Nelli’ (Phyllanthusemblica) , ‘Baheda’ (Artocarpussericicarpus), ‘Black plum’(Syzygiumcumini), etc were planted inside the camp premises.

Veteran Ayurvedic physicians, Messrs Sampath Indika, Chairman, Suwasetha Hela Osu Ayurvedic Hospital in Piliyandala, along with Mr. K.D.C.S. Kumaratunga, the Commissioner of Department of Ayurveda, Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services, Dr. Tissa Jinasena, the owner of Jinasena Group, Jinasena Electric Motors (Pvt.) Limited, Jinasena Agricultural Machineries (Pvt) Ltd and Jinasena Engineering Technologies (Pvt) Ltd who are dedicated to protect those herbal species were present during the launch of the project.

Mr Sampath Indika handed over the first Sandalwood saplings to Mrs Indu Senevirathne, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Seva Vanitha Unit and Brigadier Dammika Dissanayake, Centre Commandant SLSR. Afterwards, the gathering and troops simultaneously began planting those saplings inside the camp.
