SLSR’s New Colonel of the Regiment Assumes Duties

Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, Commander, Security Forces - East, assumed duties as the 16th Colonel of the Regiment of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) on Monday (23) at his office in the Regimental Centre, Ambepussa.

The programme commenced in accordance with military traditions. Major General Priyantha Jayawardena was welcomed by the Deputy Centre Commandant, SLSR Colonel Dulitha Perera and was honoured in a Guard Turnout on his arrival. Later on, Brigadier Viraj Wimalasena, Centre Commandant, SLSR ushered Major General Priyantha Jayawardana to the parade ground where he was saluted in a Guard of Honour by Regimental troops.

Later, Major General Priyantha Jayawardena in his new office placed his signature in a formal document symbolizing the assumption of duties as the Colonel of the Regiment.

Afterwards, a floral tribute was paid at the War Heroes’ Monument in memory of all valiant Officers and Other Ranks of the SLSR who made the supreme sacrifice for the motherland.

He was also invited to plant a sapling to mark this significant day and took part in a refreshments hosted by the other ranks at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess of the Regimental Centre SLSR.

Subsequently, he addressed the troops at the main auditorium and later posed for a group photograph with all Officers.

Major General Priyantha Jayawardena succeeded Major General Kithsiri Liyange who retired from the service a few days ago.

Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the day’s event.
