The newly-appointed Chief Signal Officer Sri Lanka Army who is also the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Major General Asoka Peiris made his first official visit to the School of Signals in Buwelikada on Saturday (13) after assuming duties.
Major General Asoka Peiris was accorded a Guard Turnout at the entrance and warmly welcomed by the Commandant, School of Signals Colonel Jagath Jayawardena.
Then, the Commandant at the School of Signals delivered a comprehensive briefing to the visiting Colonel Commandant regarding ongoing projects and future requirements of the School of Signals.
Subsequently, the Colonel Commandant addressed the troops gathered in the Mercury Hall and emphasized the process of gearing the ways and means of the Sri Lanka Army Commander’s conceptual notion of the “ Way Forward Strategy 2020 – 2025 ” as the Corps of Signals. Further, he elaborated the method of steering the drive in keeping with the core values to uplift the training procedures at the School of Signals.
Afterwards, he was presented a memento by the Commandant School of Signals as a symbol of memory.
Then, he posed for a photograph with all the staff of the School of Signals before joining tea with all ranks at the Mercury Square. There, he shared a couple of thoughts with student officers in the Young Officers' Course and Other Ranks.
Afterwards, he took time off to visit key places such as the trainees' accommodation, Lecture Halls, Telecommunication Lab, Kitchen and Other Ranks Mess at the School of Signals and the ongoing construction sites in the School of Signals.
In order to mark the visit, the Colonel Commandant planted a Mango sapling inside the camp premises and the day's programme culminated with lunch at the Officers’ Mess.
Finally, he left compliments in the visitors' book before he left the school.
