SLLI Regimental HQ Commemorates Its 32nd Anniversary

The 32nd Anniversary of founding the Regimental HQ of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) got underway at Panagoda on Monday (23) with several elaborate programmes.

At first, a formal Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour presented by Regimental HQ troops saluted the Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku who is also the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna on his arrival at the premises as the day’s Chief Guest.

Brigadier T.C.K Peiris, Centre Commandant, SLLI greeted and welcomed the Colonel of the Regiment.

As part of the Anniversary programme, the day’s Chief Guest distributed five laptops and ten tabs to fifteen children of SLLI families who have done well in the Grade 5 scholarship examination in 2020. Meanwhile, a new IT unit was opened inside the Regimental Centre to coincide with the anniversary as a proposal of Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku.

This was followed by award of trophies and certificates to the achievers (1st and 2nd places) in administration examinations, held in 2021. The first regular battalion won the first place. The 11th place, the 7th place and the second place went to 2 (V) SLLI and 14 (V) SLLI Regiments respectively.

In addition, the Regimental Commander inaugurated the newly-constructed gold fence and the renovated shrine rooms around the Boo tree at the SLLI Regimental Center, the same evening, adding colour to the day.

The Colonel of the Regiment then delivered a timely and a fruitful address to All Ranks before all of them sat for a lunch treat.

The 32nd Regimental HQ Anniversary commemorations concluded with offer of Heel Daana (breakfast) to members of the Maha Sangha after an overnight Pirith Chanting that preceded.

A large number of Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment participated in this anniversary celebration adhering to health guidelines.

The Sri Lanka Infantry Regimental HQ hoisted the Regiment Flag on 23rd October 1989 after its 1st Battalion and the 1st Brigade were stationed at the Panagoda Army Cantonment.
