SLLI Housing Project Gifts Three More New Homes to War Heroes & Families

Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment HQ in keeping with initiatives taken by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army towards construction of more and more new homes for injured War Heroes and for family members of fallen War Heroes is forging ahead with sustained house-construction welfare project due to financial support, being received from the Directorate of Veteran Affairs and the SLLI Regimental HQ.

Under the project, 10 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops constructed a new house for a differently able Non Commissioned Officer in Uduwinna, Hanguranketha area at first and it was vested in the family on the directions of Major General Wasantha Abrew, Colonel of the Regiment and Commander Security Forces-West on Tuesday (9). The new house, built at a cost of Rs 1.4 m was opened by the Deputy Centre Commandant of the SLLI at the invitation of the Commanding officer of the 10 SLLI as the Chief Guest for the occasion.

Meanwhile, one more house was erected at Ibbagamuwa for the family of a fallen War Hero who sacrificed his life during humanitarian operations in Ampakamam at a similar cost. It was built by 20 SLLI troops under the supervision of the Commanding Officer and funded by the Directorate of Veteran Affairs and the SLLI Regimental HQ. On Wednesday (10), Major General P.J.P Gamage, Council member of the SLLI by accepting the invitation given by the Commanding Officer, 20 SLLI as the Chief Guest ceremonially opened the new home at Ibbagamuwa.

In addition, one more new house, erected at a cost Rs 1.4 million for a needy Non Commissioned Officer of the 11 SLLI in Wariyapola area was warmed and opened on Wednesday (10) during a brief ceremony, held on Wednesday (10). Major General P.J.P Gamage, Council member of the SLLI at the invitation of the 11 SLLI Commanding Officer as the Chief Guest vested it in the NCO who has been undergoing lots of hardships.
