SLLI House-Building Project Continues: One More New Home of a War Hero Warmed

Taking the cue from his predecessors, Major General Wasantha Abrew, Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and Commander, Security Forces-West as one more product of the SLLI's ongoing house-construction project, warmed a newly-built home in Panawala, Nittambuwa for an injured War Hero on Sunday (7) during a simple ceremony.

To be in line with the Army Chief's vision to get the best accommodation and facilities for Other Rankers in the Army with special focus on all those who sweated to win over LTTE terrorism before May 2009, the SLLI RHQ with the guidance of the former Colonel of the Regiment and the SLLI RHQ Centre Commandant, a project to build new houses or complete partly-built ones was launched about a year ago with the financial backing of the RHQ, Directorate of Veteran Affairs and the SLLI's Seva Vanitha Unit.

The new home, built by SLLI troops of the HQ Battalion at Nittambuwa cost Rs 1.5 million and the beneficiary, a senior Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) sustained permanent injuries during the fight against LTTE terrorism. A brief ceremony for the house-warming followed rites and rituals such as milk-pot boiling, religious observances, etc after the day's Chief Guest, Major General Wasantha Abrew cut a ribbon and opened it with the beneficiary and his family members.

A limited gathering including the SLLI Centre Commandant, Senior Officers, officers and other ranks gathered at the venue for the auspicious warming ceremony. Buy Sneakers | Air Jordan
