Major General M.K Jayawardena assumed duties as the 22nd Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) on Thursday (13) during a simple ceremony, held at the SLAWC Regimental Headquarters, Borella.
Upon Major General M.K Jayawardena’s arrival at the SLAWC Regimental Centre, Brigadier Chaminda Thibbotuge, the SLAWC Centre Commandant warmly welcomed him. After a while amid chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ by members of the Maha Sangha, the new Colonel Commandant signed an official document, signifying the acceptance of the new appointment.
The day’s programme included an All Rank tea, troop address and a conference with all Staff Officers at the Regimental Headquarters along with the Commanding Officers.
At present, Major General M.K Jayawardena is also holding the appointment as the Chief Field Engineer of the Sri Lanka Army. He has served a number of other senior key appointments in operational, administrative and staff capacities across the country.
