SLAVF Training School's New Facilities Inauguarated with Comd's Blessings

The Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Training School (SLAVFTS) at Diyatalawa under the 'Sri Lanka Army Way Forward Strategy-2020 - 2025' of the Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva, expanded and upgraded its existing infrastructure facilities by inaugurating the state-of-the art ‘Wisdom Avenue’ Officers' Study Centre, consists of three Smart Classrooms that offer seating capacity for 100 Student Officers and also the newly-erected ‘Green View’ accommodation complex for Senior Officers on Wednesday (17).

Major General Dhammika Jayasinghe, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) as the Chief Guest on the invitation of the Commandant SLAVFTS, Colonel H. A Keerthinatha unveiled plaques and warmed both facilities, together with a few Senior Officers and had a close look at both new constructions, gifted to the school on the prioritized recommendation of the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva.

The SLAVFTS at Diyatalawa boasts a landmark history of over 117 years and has hitherto gifted the Nation with a galaxy of Officers, professionals and patriotic War Heroes, and new facilities are therefore expected to provide a fillip that could further sharpen their training skills under the ongoing 'Sri Lanka Army Way Forward Strategy 2020 - 2025', now in full swing as instructed by the Army HQ.

The day’s itinerary got to a start with the arrival of the Chief Guest who was saluted in a Guard Turnout before he was warmly welcomed to the premises by Major General Cristi Jayasinghe, Deputy Commandant, SLAVF and Colonel H.A Keerthinatha, Commandant SLAVFTS. The proceedings commenced with lighting of the traditional oil lamp, amidst blessings of the Maha Sangha as the Chief Guest began unveiling plaques and warming both the ‘Wisdom Avenue’ Officers' Study Center and the Senior Officers’ Accommodation Complex, comprised of 10 rooms and all other facilities. The day's protagonist was also afterwards invited to plant a ‘Na’ sapling as a symbl of memory.

After main formalities, the Chief Guest addressed the troops and touched on future development strategy of the SLAVFTS that would go in parallel with the 'Sri Lanka Army Way Forward Strategy 2020 -2025.' Further, he stated that more training concepts to support the role and tasks and structural development, capacity enhancement, career development and application of the Sri Lanka Way Forward Strategy 2020 – 2025 as per the vision of the Commander of Army would be introduced in future.

Towards the culmination of the itinerary, the Commandant SLAVFTS presented a memento to the Chief Guest as a symbol of appreciation. The Chief Guest also left compliments in the Visitors' Book before his departure from the location.
