SLAVF Training School Groomed 188 New Recruits Pass Out

One hundred and eighty eight (188) new recruits trained in the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) Training School at Diyatalawa in the Recruit Course No. 79 passed out on Tuesday (23) during a ceremonial parade at the SLAVFTS ground.

Those recruits after successful completion of the four-month long basic recruit training course saluted the day’s Chief Guest Major General Ranjan Lamahewage, Commander, Security Forces - Central who attended the occasion.

The Course No - 79 was conducted from 23 November 2020 to 23 March 2021 under the directions and supervision of Directorate of Training, Army Training Command (ARTRAC), and Recruit Training Coordination Centre under the close supervision of the SLAVF HQ at Kosgama.

On his arrival at the venue, the Chief Guest was warmly welcomed by Colonel H.A Keerthinatha, Commandant SLAVF Training School before he was greeted to a Guard Turnout. Then, he was ushered to the saluting dais, from where he received the salute after review of the parade. The parade was commanded by Major M.W Wishwamithra, the Chief Instructor at the Training School.

All the recruits took the Oath to protect the environment and each received a sapling during the parade in accordance with the ongoing ‘Thuru Mithuru Nawaratak’ project of the Commander of the Army.

Later on, the day's Chief Guest awarded trophies and certificates to the best of the best in the Recruit Course No. 79. In a gesture of excellence, Private P.G.C Bandara succeeded in becoming the Best Recruit having achieved the highest aggregate marks for all theoretical and practical disciplines during the training. Private M.N Nimsara received the award as the Best in Physical. The Best Shot was clinched by Private K.D Sankalpa and received appreciation and trophies from the Chief Guest, in the company of the Commandant SLAVFTS.

The Chief Guest Major General Ranjan Lamahewage, made a brief address on the occasion and reminded the importance of maintaining discipline at all levels. Moreover he pointed out the dignity and pride, associated with the Volunteer Force as future soldiers.
