SLAVF New Commandant Assumes Duties

Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe assumed duties as the 50th Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), amidst religious blessings and military formalities, conducted at the SLAVF premises at Seethawaka, Kosgama on Thursday (Dec 22).

The protagonist was warmly welcomed on arrival by Major General Thusitha Silva, Deputy Commandant of SLAVF and Colonel H.A Keerthirathna, Centre Commandant of Sri Lanka National Guard. A colourful Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour accorded by troops of the Sri Lanka National Guard saluted the incoming SLAVF Commandant as the firsts in the day’s programme.

After he arrived at his new office premises, he placed his signature in an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of the office at the auspicious time amidst blessings of the Maha Sangha who chanted ‘Seth Pirith’ and blessed the new office.

Afterwards, the new Commandant planted a Mango sapling in the compound and added memories to his inauguration of the office before he attended an all-rank tea with Officers and Other Ranks in the SLAVF. Finally, his troop address marked the end of the day’s itinerary.

Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe succeeded Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa who has now been appointed as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army.

Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment, prior to this appointment served as the Commander, Security Forces-Mullaittivu.
