The Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) Regimental Headquarters at Panagoda on Wednesday (20) bade farewell to one of its senior and outstanding Senior Officers, Major General Shantha Hewawitharana who has added colour to the Regiment well over 34 years during a fitting ceremony with the participation of the Colonel Commandant, SLA Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda, Commander, Commander Security Forces - Kilinochchi.
Upon the arrival of the day's Chief Guest, he was warmly welcomed by Senior Officers and ushered to salute the memory of fallen SLA War Heroes with a floral wreath.
In conformity with traditions, a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour was awarded to the outgoing senior Gunner Officer by SLA troops followed by refreshments at the Warrant Officers’/Sergeants' Mess. The forenoon arrangements culminated with an all rank lunch where the Chief Guest had time to interact with all soldiers present at the location.
The day's formalities reached its climax with the dining out held at the Officers' Mess the same evening, where the retiring Officer's service to the Army was lavishly hailed and awarded a special memento by the Colonel Commandant before the retiring Major General Shantha Hewawitharana delivered his farewell compliments.
