The Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ- W) turned 24 years of age on Friday (18).
Several anniversary programmes were organized to mark the event as per guidelines given by Major General Champaka Ranasinghe, Commander, SF-W beginning Thursday (17).
The anniversary formalities began giving pride place to religious ceremonies by placing a new Buddha statue in the shrine room. A ‘Bodhi Pooja’ in the same evening (17), attended by Officers and Other Ranks invoked blessings on the Army, SFHQ-W anniversary and all the troops. The following morning’s ‘Heel Daana’ (breakfast) to members of the Maha Sangha brought the religious programmes to end.
On the anniversary day (18), a formal Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour, presented by 20 Gajaba Regiment troops saluted Major General Champaka Ranasinghe Commander, SF-W upon his arrival at the HQ. A few minutes later, Major General Ranasinghe was invited to plant a sapling in the premises as a symbol of memory. In another formality, the Wanni Commander afterwards addressed the troops and highlighted the significance of an anniversary and urged All Ranks to perform better for the best interests of the nation. An All Rank lunch brought the anniversary arrangements to culmination.
In addition, a team of Officers and Other Ranks, taking gifts visited the ‘Abimansala 1’ at Anuradhapura, together with the Wanni Commander. There, All Wanni Officers and Other Ranks interacted with them and provided refreshments to those ‘Abimansala 1’ War Heroes.
