The Security Force Headquarters -Jaffna (SFHQ-J) extended a warm welcome to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Shavendra Silva, when he visited it on Friday (14) after he took over as the CDS.
He was received by Major General Chandana Wijayasundara, Commander, Security Forces -Jaffna on arrival. In accordance with military formalities, a colour - rich drive pass Guard Turnout at the entrance to the Security Force Headquarters -Jaffna greeted the visiting Chief of Defence Staff before the day’s itinerary began.
Afterwards, the Chief of Defence Staff addressed Officers and Other Ranks inside the SFHQ-J and expressed his gratitude towards the troops who patronized a variety of nation-building tasks, launched by the Army in the most recent past and appreciated their untiring contribution given in the discharge of duties vested in him to the best satisfaction of all quarters. He also commended the tireless efforts, taken by the troops in the control of COVID-19 pandemic by winning the hearts and minds of the public.
Similarly, the Chief of Defence Staff urged the troops to give the same support and cooperation to the recently- appointed Commander of the Army to discharge his duties.
Towards the end of the address, Major General Chandana Wijayasundera, Commander, Security Forces -Jaffna on behalf of All Ranks presented a symbolic memento to the day's Chief Guest and appreciated his presence in Jaffna in order to meet the troops. Then the Chief of Defence Staff posed for a group photograph with respective Senior Officers, Officers serving under the Security Forces -Jaffna symbolizing the significance of this day.
All General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were associated with the arrangement.
Just a few hours after the visit to the Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna, General Shavendra Silva made a formal visit to the Security Force Headquarters-Mullattivu SFHQ (MLT) en route to Kilinochchi.
On his arrival, Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Commander, SF-MLT received him after a ceremonial drive-pass Guard Turnout, presented by troops saluted him.
