Security Forces Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) in the past fortnight intensified its community-oriented projects and provided all support and assistance as requested.
Of them, construction of a new house to the rehabilitated former combatant, M.K Sathyaseelan of Vakarai using Army found raw materials and labour received the support of the recipient’s neighbours and was completed within a few days.
‘Dengue’ prevention Shramadana campaigns of cleaning at Pallathuchena village area, Kudumbimalai Kumaran Vidyalaya, Panama Rural Hospital premises, Hulannuge Maha Vidyalaya during separate days (Nov 11 -20) received the support of villagers, students and community leaders in respective areas.
Meanwhile, SFHQ-E with the intention to help improve educational standards of students, preparing for the GCE O/L examination in December, took steps to organize a seminar at Aselapura Vidyalaya early this week.
A few hundreds of students of Aselapura, Kurulubedda, Mahasenpura, Nagastenna, Kalingavila and other schools in the province took part in the seminar, attended by several prominent lecturers brought down from Colombo.
During the weekend, SFHQ-E facilitated the conduct of the annual Katina ceremony at Henanigala Raja Maha Viharaya by way of providing transport to the clergy and other necessary items.
In the meantime, troops organized a ten-day volleyball tournament for sportsmen in the Karathivu Divisional Secretariat area. Six sports clubs in the area participated in the tournament (Nov 15 - 25).
