SFHQ – Wanni Marks Its 12th Anniversary

Various Religious, Military, Tree planting and Sports activities that got underway at Vavuniya in the past week marked the 12th anniversary of the establishment of the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ - W).

Pride of place went to the all-night Pirith Chanting and an alms giving to members of the Maha Sangha, organized on 22nd November at the SFHQ-W with the participation of Major General G.D.H.K Gunaratne, Commander SFHQ-W. Next day’s flag hoisting ceremony at the SFHQ-W followed a special memorial service at the SFHQ-W monument where floral tributes were paid in memory of the fallen War Heroes. A two-minute silence too honoured them afterwards.

In support of the government’s tree planting campaign, Major General Gunarathne along with other staff officers at SFHQ-W planted tree saplings at the premises.

A series of sport events, including tournaments in Volleyball, Netball and Wrestling that got underway among officers and other ranks in the SFHQ-W that coincided with the anniversary,  saw their final rounds and distribution of certificates and merit awards to the winners.

Towards the end of the day’s programme, a variety musical show, attended by several leading vocalists got underway as dusk fell. They were provided music by the Army band.

A large gathering of Senior Officers in the Army, Deputy Inspector General of Police for Vavuniya and soldiers were present at those events.
