SF-KLN Troops Motivate Youths in Thunnukkai & Kilinochchi for Farming

65 Division troops serving under the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) organized an awareness programme on ‘Small Enterprises and Private Finance Management’ on the directions of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 65 Division, Major General Sarath Weerawardhana at the Army Farm, Vellankulam last Thursday (23).

The aim of the said programme was to motivate the youth who are following a course on agriculture at Wellankulam Army Farm for initiation of their own business or farm after completion of the course.

A request to this effect has been directed to the Army by the Divisional Secretariat.

Mr. Balakrishnan Shivadeepan, Manager of the Central Bank – Kilinochchi branch educated the youth. Further, Heads of financial sector companies in Thunukkai area also attended the said programme.

Around 76 youths from Thunukkai area took part in the programme and raised many questions and sought clarifications for their doubts during the period.

Meanwhile, 10000 seeds of a new breed of grass for cattle were also distributed among selected 5 dairy farmers with the aim of developing dairy farms in Thunukkai area.

GOC, 65 Division Major General Sarath Weerawardhana, Divisional Secretary for Thunukkai, Mr.Thanabalasingham, Deputy Director of Agricultural School-Paranthan, Mrs. Shakilabahanu, Commander of 653 Brigade, Military Officers and Government Officers participated at the said event.

Meanwhile, on the directions of the GOC, 57 Division, 571 Brigade and 16 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops jointly organized a ‘Sharamadana’ campaign at Kilinochchi Thiruwaiaru Maha Vidyalaya premises on 23 February. The ‘Sharamadana’ campaign was supervised by the Brigade Commander, 571 Brigade, Colonel Ajith Kolambathanthrige.

The ‘Shramadana’ campaign got underway in response to a request made by the principal at Thiruwaiaru Maha Vidyalaya to the Brigade Commander, 571 Brigade. Approximately 20 other ranks took part in the ‘Shramadana’ campaign and cleaned the school premises. Afterwards, the principal on behalf of the teachers and the children of the school extended his gratitude to Army personnel for cleaning the school premises.

The above-mentioned programmes were implemented as part of civil-military coordination activities in the SFHQ-KLN area under the supervision of the Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi.
