Seva Vanitha 30th AGM Held with New Spirits

The 30th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) which has been engaged in numerous welfare measures for the benefit of war heroes and their families was held on Saturday (13) at Waters Edge Hotel, Battaramulla on a grand scale with participation of more than 300 of regimental Seva Vanitha chairpersons, executive board members and senior members.

The milestone AGM, chaired by Mrs Damayanthi Rathnayake, President, ASVU who graced the occasion as the chief guest, saw the series of welfare projects that had been carried out by the ASVU in the previous year after Mrs Ratnayake became the chairperson, taken up for review and assessment.

Mrs Ratnayake elaborating on the achievements that had been made in the previous year tabled a detailed report as regards all the projects usefully implemented and reminded the gathering of the future projects that need to be performed with equal commitment and dedication for the greater interest of all Army families.

In her speech she commended the understanding that has been sustained by the ASVU membership without interferring in the affairs of Army administration.

The AGM, held with renewed vigour and full of spirits was also attended by past presidents and a large gathering of former Seva Vanitha executive members.

Giving a moral support for conduct of the ASVU affairs, the Seva Vanitha Unit of Gajaba Regiment (GR) made a donation of Rs 1 million towards the ASVU fund at the occasion. Mrs Saroja Daulagala, Chairperson, Seva Vanitha Unit of GR on behalf of the Seva Vanitha Unit of GR presented the cheque to the ASVU president.

Prof Sarath Wijesuriya of University of Colombo soon after the AGM session delivered a useful lecture on ‘Conduct of a good life’ to the ladies attending the AGM.

The ASVU get-together that followed the formal meeting session was coloured by cultural feats and a musical entertainment.
