Seva Vanitha 'New Year' Fair Offers Many Varieties for Sale


Year 2012’s ‘Rana Aruna Udana’ New Year fair,  organized by the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) for the noble objective of raising much-needed funds for rehabilitation of disable War Heroes and welfare of their families and serving personnel’s families was opened to the public Saturday (7) morning at Panagoda Army school grounds.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army at the invitation of Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB ceremonially opened it after buying a few essentials from a several stalls in the fair.

The fair, open to the public during the weekend beginning 9.00 a.m. on both days offers a wide variety of New Year cloths, food items, kitchenware, sweetmeats, ceramic products, spices, toys, packed food items, etc at reasonably low prices, most of which have been given by some well-wishers for sale.

Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, together with SVAB senior members received the Chief Guest to the occasion and invited him to light the traditional oil lamp for inauguration.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya visited the stall put up by the Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna and exchanged a couple of views with the personnel maning the sales outlet. Afterwards, the Commander freely visited almost all the stalls, put up by all the Regiments and eagerly looked at the products on sale.

A huge crowd that thronged the premises mirrored the support the public would extend for those welfare measures, being adopted by the SVAB for the benefit of disable War Heroes in particular.
