SERRIC Children Blossom in Annual Concert before Commander's Presence

Little Blossoms’ of the Army-managed ‘Senehasa’ Education Resource Research and Information Centre (SERRIC) for children of Army families with special needs at Manning Town, showcased their aesthetic skills in the presence of the Chief Guest, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva during their annual concert, held at Bishop’s College auditorium on Thursday (12) afternoon.

Opened in 2012, the SERRIC houses 87 children with special physical and mental needs, belonging to Army, Navy and Air Force families and is administered by Brigadier K.G.H.S.K Embewa, Director, SERRIC.

This afternoon’s annual concert, coloured with various singing, dancing and other aesthetic features, drew the attention of the spectators due to high standards of the presentations and the meticulous training that had gone into each of those children, participating in the event.

Those children with physical and mental impairments are given exceptional care and attention in the SERRIC, which operates as a resource / research centre that provides a stimuli to those interested in child development and special education.

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva on arrival at the auditorium premises was welcomed by Brigadier Embewa, Director, SERRIC and two children and conducted to the auditorium, together with Mrs Nayana De Silva, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) and a host of other senior officers.

Major General E.M.M Ambanpola, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Adjutant General, Major General Mahesh Senanayake, Military Secretary, Major General A.S De Z Wickremaratne, Director General Rehabilitation, senior officers, ASVU members, parents and other invitees enjoyed the evening with those children with special needs, who displayed their varying artistic skills.

An eminent group of resource personnel, including scholars, medical officers, engineers, paedtricians, trainers and selected experts have thrown their full weight behind SERRIC’s successful conduct, backed by the Commander of the Army all the time.
