A series of community self-help projects (Shramadana) in Security Force Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E) areas in the past week were supported by civilians in respective village areas.
6 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops of the 221 Brigade in Thiriyaya, 5 Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) Regiment troops at Thopur of 224 Brigade, 2 Gajaba Regiment (GR) troops in Trincomalee under 221 Brigade respectively, conducted Shramadana projects in and around Girihandu Seya temple premises, Kumburuppidy Rainbow Pre-school premises, Pallikudiyirippu Sinnakulam Wairawal Kovil surroundings, Barathipuram school surroundings, Selvanaygampuram Hospital surroundings in Trincomalee and Jayasumanarama temple premises in Trincomalee during past two weeks.
Meanwhile, the sponsorship given by Mr Sunanda Abeysinghe enabled 2 Gajaba Regiment (GR) troops in Trincomalee to supply a medical student with a new laptop after considering his low-income family status.
In the meantime, 8 GW troops of 231 Brigade and 5 SLA troops in Thopur during separate arrangements distributed water and dry ration packets among drought-hit people in Pulukunawa, Kachchikudi and Keviliyamadu areas with sponsorships, received from 36 Buddhist monks of Wariyapola Bamunukotuwa area and refreshments among Sunday Daham school students at Uthurugiri temple in Muttur respectively during the past week.
Similarly, 8 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops in Thoppigala under 232 Brigade, 2 GR troops in Trincomalee, 5 SLA troops in Thopur, 17 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) in Kandakadu, 22 VIR troops in Serunuwara, 6 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) troops in Morawewa and 222 Brigade troops of 22 Division in Pansalgodella carried out numerous community projects, such as supply of drinking water, relief dry ration packets, Shramadana projects, distribution of school accessories among students in Pansalgodella Kantale and several other areas.
Meanwhile, Major General Lal Perera, Commander, SFHQ-E on Friday (12) inaugurated the new Sangawasa at the International Buddhist Centre at Aranthalawa at the invitation of Ven Kirindiwela Somarathana Nayake Thero, Incumbent, Indrasara Pirivena, Aranthalawa.
Army troops in the area provided manpower and engineering expertise for the construction of this new abode for monks at the famous Buddhist temple.
Meanwhile, thanks to the support given by philanthropists, Non Governmental Organizations and donors, 12 SLNG troops succeeded in constructing a new house for a poor family at Thirukkovil Gramaseva Division.
Major General Lal Perera, Commander, SFHQ-E on Saturday (13) ceremonially opened the new house and handed over the keys to the family during a brief ceremony, attended by several senior officers and senior citizen in the area.
