Rising to the Need, Over 155 Army Personnel Offer Blood to Kilinochchi Patients

Responding swiftly to the SOS request of Kilinochchi Hospital authorities, a total of 155 Army Officers and Other Ranks serving the 1 Corps HQ and its affiliated Logistics Units, 57 Division, 66 Division, 4 Military Intelligence Corps, B Squadron of 5 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and a group of Kilinochchi Policemen came forward to donate their blood in order to save the lives of seriously ill patients in the Kilinochchi region on Monday (24).

The blood donation arrangement was launched at the Army Base Hospital-Kilinochchi premises in collaboration with the HQ 1 Corps and the staff at the Army Base Hospital, Kilinochchi in response to the earnest request, made by the Director at Kilinochchi Hospital since blood stocks are in short supply.

Dr (Ms) Achana Obris, Medical Officer at Kilinochchi Blood Bank, and her team provided the required technical assistance to the humanitarian project. Brigadier Asela Amarasekara, Brigadier Administration & Quartering at 1 Corps HQ, and Major Eranda Senevirathna, Officer Commanding at Army Base Hospital, Kilinochchi closely coordinated and supervised the arrangement as per guidelines, given by the Commander, 1 Corps HQ.

The project, one of the biggest in the recent past in Kilinochchi came in for praise from the community and the medical fraternity in Kilinochchi as well.
