Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI)-produced one of the proud warriors, Major General Kithsiri Ekanayake, Director General Plans at Directorate of Plans at the AHQ received appreciative compliments from none other than his Chief, General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army when the former was invited to the Commander's office on Wednesday (24) on the eve of his retirement from the Army.
Appreciative of his dedicated services to the Army for more than three decades, General Shavendra Silva refreshed memories in the battlefield before May 2009 and mentioned a few unforgettable instances where decisive actions had to be launched against the most ruthless terrorist organization in the world. The retiring Major General Kithsiri Ekanayake who has served a number of key appointments in the Army and the SLLI in particular also recalled unforgettable encounters that Army troops had to overcome in a decisive manner.
The outgoing Senior Officer also thanked the Commander of the Army for his wishes and the thoughtfulness while mentioning about the stimulation and encouragement he received from the Army Chief in the performance of his duties. Towards the end of the interaction, General Shavendra Silva awarded a special memento to the retiree as a symbol of appreciation and commendation. The gesture was reciprocated.
