With the financial sponsorship extended by Mrs. Suranjani Wickremeratne, the President of ‘Colombo Tarana Foundation’, troops of the 523 Brigade on the directions given by the Commander, Security Forces Jaffna and under the guidelines of the General Officer Commanding, Major General Kithsiri Liyanage, 52 Division coordinated the distribution of nutrients, dry ration packs and sanitary items among 75 pregnant women in the Jaffna peninsula after inviting them to the Poomari Hall at Chavakachcheri on Thursday (28).
Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna Major, General Priyantha Perera as the Chief Guest, together with donors joined the distribution of those relief packs, each worth Rs 2750.00. Those packs included cereals like chick peas, milkpowder, dhal, canned fish, rice, cowpea, green gram, etc in addition to a collection of sanitizers and face masks that could be used against Covid 19 epidemic.
Those pregnant women of remote areas in the Jaffna peninsula, eligible to receive those relief benefits were selected on the recommendation of respective state officials.
