Programme Reminds Civilians of Mine Risks


Nearly 200 civilians, exposed to mine risks in Nagarkovil West and Kudatthanai areas were alerted to mine awareness lectures after summoning them to common centers in respective areas.

Those two awareness programmes, conducted by 10 Field Sri Lanka Engineers under the Disaster Mitigation Project got underway in Nagarkovil and Kudatthanai where those civilians were educated on land mines and Unexploded Explosive Ordnance.

Meanwhile, soldiers of 25 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 15 Sri Lanka National Guard serving under the 511 Brigade, participated in a Shramadana campaign at Teachers’ College Iruppalai in the first week of May. Thirty two soldiers and forty trainee teachers attended the Shramadana.

In another civil-military programme, 4 Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police recently organized an awareness programme on road safety in collaboration with the Jaffna Police.

The programme got underway at St. Patrick’s College premises with kind assistance of Rev.Fr Jero Selvanayagam, the principal. The lecture was attended by 18 teachers and 620 students.
